Proctor and Gamble

Inspired by Boss Bottled

These illustrations are actually collages, using images sourced from second hand books. 

Scent is visually invisible and can be difficult to describe. I thought about my own personal response to the scent and decided to create a new world that contained the conflicting raw/natural elements I detected with the constructed, man-made impression I got from smelling it.

The beetles came from envisioning the scent as a thing. (Perhaps not a comfortable notion, but the idea of it enveloping you and crawling on your skin like a bug).

I looked at Victoriana and the idea of displaying my images as a Victorian exhibition of this “New World” and decided to include “specimens”- hence the beetles. They are comprised of the worlds and were cut out and mounted so that a photo could be taken of them and therefore a shadow created- making them look 3D.

My research was a complex process that touched on many elements that are difficult to explain without visual aids- I hope to upload sketchbook pages when they are returned so that you can fully understand my process.
